The unidentified man was shot once around 9:42 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the area of 5th Street, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
The man was struck in the torso and collapsed at the scene. Bridgeport Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene one minute later and requested that police and medics respond to their location, Fitzgerald said.
The victim was treated at the scene by American Medical Response personnel and then transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he died a short time later.
Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence and are exploring leads in the case, police said.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and completion of an autopsy.
